Introducing: Musica

Updated: Dec 18, 2019

Welcome to Musica 2019/20. We are a festival designed to celebrate female music-making, run by a team of student volunteers here at the University of Manchester. Whilst the workshops are primarily for female-identifying participants, we welcome people of all gender identities to watch, enjoy and commemorate the achievements of female music-making in the concerts throughout the festival.

As a team, we have already starting planning what is going to be an exciting festival, run between 27th February - 6th March, so keep those dates free in your diaries and plan to participate in as many events as you possibly can!

The provisional schedule is as follows:

  • Thursday 27th Feb: Jazz Improvisation Workshop

  • Friday 28th Feb: Conducting Workshop

  • Monday 2nd March: DJ/ Production Masterclass

  • Tuesday 3rd March: Relaxed Open Mic Night

  • Thursday 4th March: Guest Lunchtime Concert - Guest Workshop - Symposium

  • Friday 5th March: Finale Lunchtime Concert - Jazz Jam

Whilst these dates are not fully set-in-stone yet, and not all events are confirmed, this is what Musica should, in theory, look like come February and March.

The festival is not the only thing Musica is part of. In the run-up to the festival, we are planning a series of podcast/blog posts focused on women and music, involving collaborations with guests and organisations from around the university and Manchester itself.

So, get those dates in your diaries, contact us if you want to be involved/ learn more via email: musica.festival1@gmail.com, and watch this space!
